would've been sharing my heart---
but I held my emotions
fearing you'd feel
too connected;

would've been losing control---
but I held my feelings
so your heart wouldn't
feel subjected…

to be all I truly wanted us to be;
so somewhere, somehow
I convinced myself
you weren't the one for me.

would've been baring my soul---
but I held my religion
hoping you wouldn't
feel soul mated.

would've been offering my love---
but I held my hand
knowing you'd then
feel obligated…

to be all I dreamed we could be;
so somewhere, somehow
I held my tongue
on speaking our love's prophecy---

until God spoke your name.
